Center for the Engineering of Living Tissues

Education Strategy

Part of the overall vision of the center is to train the leadership and manpower required by the emerging tissue engineering industry. The educational strategy for this includes components for K-12 teachers and students, undergraduate research experiences, a graduate Management Minor in Biomedical Technology and an Internet interactive tissue engineering course.

The K-12 outreach includes a year-round program designed to enable high school and middle school science mathematics teachers to work in university laboratories and also the creation of teaching modules for the Busy Teachers' Website, for use as supplemental classroom materials.

An undergraduate research program provides summer internships for non-Georgia Tech/Emory undergraduates and a yearlong undergraduate Fellows program for Georgia Tech/Emory undergraduates as well as students from other universities.

A minor for graduate students has been developed in the Management of Biomedical Technology.

In collaboration with the Center for Distance Learning and the Interactive Media Technology Center at Georgia Tech, a graduate interactive tissue engineering course is under development for the Internet.
