NSF's Lynn Preston, Leader of the Engineering Research Centers Program, gave a presentation to the American Society for Engineering Education's (ASEE's) Engineering Research Council Summit on the challenges involved in ensuring that young faculty have sufficient incentives and rewards to encourage them to become involved in cross-disciplinary/interdisciplinary research. The presentation draws on her experiences across 25 years of fostering cross-disciplinary research and developing the ERC Program, as well as the perspective of current ERC Directors.
